My birthday was on Wednesday, and since it was a work day I wasn’t expecting much. On our tea break the Cluver family totally surprised me with a decked out “surfer girl” cake. Everyone sang happy birthday to me, and some of the family even gave me gifts. They are all so warm and loving! Then after work Will completely surprised me when he told me to pack a bag for the night, and Paul Cluver drove us into Cape Town. I had no idea where we were going until we pulled into the driveway of Constantia Uitsig, Kezia’s family’s resort on their wine farm in Constantia. There was a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the hotel room which we drank while we got ready for dinner, listening to Beatles music the whole time. The final surprise was that Will had made us dinner reservations at La Colombe, which is the nicest of the three restaurants at the resort. It was voted number one restaurant in all of Africa a couple years ago. We splurged and ordered the eight course tasting menu paired with all South African wines. It was such a special night that I will never forget! I am very blessed to feel so much love on my birthday so far away from home.
